Marches

I marched in a couple of parades since my last post! Some catching up to do here, yes. One was the Marche du Nain Rouge, a fun re-started tradition in the city of Detroit. Here I am in the marche (it is French, non?) --

And in the summer was the Motor City Pride festival, which in a major turn of events, moved back to downtown Detroit this year. It was a huge success! Read more about it here. Anyway, I got to march in the "Robert M. Nelson Presents: A Salute to Robert M. Nelson" parade! And I was in a picture in the Detroit News --

Robert M. Nelson is best described as a Detroit Personality. He may be "not pictured", but he does appear in the excellent Motor City Pride video (at 3:47).

Viva Drag

I've been away from blogging for some time... I've been busy with a new hobby, doing drag performing! I'm just now taking some time off from it (on top of the regular job that I have), so I'll blog a bit now.

The picture above is me performing at a local club Stiletto's a few months ago, dancing and lip syncing to a pop song, Katy Perry "Hot N Cold" in this case. I do a lot of Lady Gaga, and also Lily Allen, No Doubt, and sometimes mix it up with some older stuff such as the B-52s, the Runaways, Breeders, etc. I try not to do just the top hits, anyway. I'm at Stiletto's most Thursday nights if you want to come see me!

"Hobby" is probably not the best word for something that feels like it was taking over my life for a while, but I'll call it that. I have a "drag mother" and everything that goes with that.

So I'm learning a lot about performing which has been great. And I'm getting a ton of makeup practice... drag makeup seems to be its own thing beyond regular crossdressing makeup. I'll post more pictures of me with my new looks soon.

Back in Black

Ok, it's somewhat criminal that I've been posting to Facebook and other semi-private places regularly, but I've ignored my public blog here. So here's a quickie post of some pictures I took a few days ago, sporting a brunette look.

Lots going on with me lately, I've started doing drag shows among other things, which has forced me to up my makeup game. Will hopefully also do another piano/cabaret gig at Cafe D'Mongo sometime soon as well.

At the Talent Show

Yeah, I know this was a couple of weeks ago, but I just ran across some pictures I took at the Talent Show fundraiser for Astro Coffee on Feb 26. I hadn't seen any other pictures posted, so these may be highly valuable artifacts --

I think the guy at the mic is Dave from Supino's Pizzeria, or someone who looks kind of like him.

This looks like Joe, Robert, and someone else I met there but I didn't catch the name of everyone.

Anyway, the Talent Show was pretty loose and a lot of fun! I even got up there and played a few songs, which was not easy playing on the Casio mini-keyboard and being somewhat drunk. I've resolved to attend more Detroit-y events when possible, and this was a good one. And if this fundraiser can help a place with good coffee open up in the city, that's also a great thing.

Cindy the Socialite

I've made my first appearance in the society pages! Well, sort of, it's the "Velvet Rope" pictures section of the Metro Times, the local weekly alternative/arts paper.

This was at the Dirty Show in Detroit last Friday. It was fun to go out in public (with my friend Lynn and a few others), which I haven't done much yet. Well, insofar as an erotic art exhibit/sideshow can be considered "public". It was an interesting event at any rate, and I did buy a photo print. And I had my picture taken by the newspaper man, how exciting!

See metrotimes.com -- Scroll down to the Velvet Rope viewer, and I'm about a dozen pictures in. Or use this more direct link for that weekend. I ought to be in the print edition too, I think.

Unfortunately I didn't follow Sheena's advice in her comment on my previous post... I am basically grinning like an idiot. Eeek! Next time I will be sure to strike a pose. And the lighting seems harsh. The paparazzi are just relentless, I say.

Update March 2010 -- Yes, my picture did appear in the Feb 24 print edition of the MT. And Sheena emailed me a very helpful pose to use in the future! Here it is:

Monday, February 22, 2010

Well, hello there.

Alright, I've started up a public blog. I'm not sure how much I'll be posting about my exceedingly glamorous life in Detroit, I mainly wanted to set up something to comment on other people's blogs. If I do post I will try to keep it quick and spontaneous.

I will however include a couple pictures of myself, as a thank-you to all my fans. Which I am going to work on accumulating, starting now.

An icy stare, just for you.
